Boustead Properties and Universiti Malaya’s exhibition showcases innovative urban design concepts for reinvigorating Mutiara Damansara
KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 1): Boustead Properties Bhd collaborated with Universiti Malaya (UM) for the “Re-emerging Mutiara Damansara Central Business District Exhibition” that was held from July 25 to 27 at The Curve shopping mall in Mutiara Damansara, Petaling Jaya.
The exhibition showcased innovative urban design concepts for reinvigorating the Mutiara Damansara township created by UM’s Master of Architecture Year 1 students of the Faculty of Built Environment 2023/2024 academic session through a year of research and design work.
“Mutiara Damansara is a flagship township development conceived more than 20 years ago and has since thrived as one of the most coveted addresses in Petaling Jaya. What is more exciting is Mutiara Damansara’s prospects as a reinvigorated, greener and more sustainable township,” said Boustead Properties chief executive officer Khairul Azizi Ismail in a statement on Thursday.
“Looking at the works displayed, I must applaud the students’ creativity in conceptualising bold and innovative schemes. It is our hope that their ideas will expand our perspective and inspire us to embrace new, relevant concepts,” he added.
The exhibition aims to highlight the importance of ongoing engagement among stakeholders to bridge the gap between academia and industry as well as to provide a platform for students to showcase their work to a wider audience and gain new learning experiences.
“At Universiti Malaya, we emphasise holistic architectural education that covers technical skills, sustainability, and cultural aspects. Our students learn to consider the social and environmental impacts of their designs while appreciating our shared heritage,” said Universiti Malaya deputy dean of faculty of built environment Faizul Azli Mohd Rahim.
“Mutiara Damansara presents numerous opportunities for our students to create better spaces for the local community, and we believe this exhibition will inspire future development into an environmentally friendly and competitive township,” Faizul added.
In the same statement, Boustead Properties said that it is set to launch The Lines, a transit-oriented mixed-use development and a key component of the Mutiara Damansara revitalisation plan, in the third quarter of this year. However, it said that details of the project will be made available at a later date.
