KUALA LUMPUR: Clean energy solutions company Gentari, through Gentari Renewables Sdn Bhd, completed a five-phase solar car park system at the Petronas East Coast Complex (PECC) in Kerteh, Terengganu, with a combined installed capacity of 2.79 MW of renewable energy across the 608,160 sq ft complex.

The solar carpark system is expected to generate approximately 3.5 million kWh of clean electricity annually, reducing approximately 2,500 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions each year. The electricity generated will power PECC’s operations, with surplus power channelled to the national grid under Malaysia’s Net Energy Metering scheme.

The project is delivered under a Solar Power Purchase Agreement between Gentari and Rantau Properties Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of KLCC (Holdings) Sdn Bhd and the owner and landlord of PECC. Under the agreement, Gentari will develop and operate the solar system while Rantau Properties will host the system on-site and purchase the electricity it generates.

“As organisations look to be more cost-competitive while advancing their decarbonisation goals, on-site renewable energy offers a practical pathway that delivers immediate value. This project demonstrates how existing infrastructure can be transformed into productive energy assets that support greater resilience, improve cost predictability and contribute to lower operational emissions. We look forward to helping more organisations accelerate their transition through solutions that are practical, scalable and tailored to their operational needs,” said Gentari Group chief operating officer and Malaysia country head Shah Yang Razalli.

The project was initiated in 2024 and delivered in partnership with homegrown renewable energy company Gading Kencana Sdn Bhd. PECC is PETRONAS’ primary administrative and operational hub.
