Property developer SkyWorld Development Bhd (SkyWorld) is partnering with Universiti Malaya (UM) to develop an Application Programming Interface (API) to enhance the property development sector’s data integration ecosystem.

Both parties signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) to co-develop a new technology ecosystem focusing on API development, data warehousing, data mining and an advanced data analyst system integrated with machine learning.

SkyWorld e-business unit head Wong How Kui and UM consult-director associate professor Yap Hwa Jen were present at the signing ceremony held at the university.

“The envisaged API marks a significant leap in our technological capabilities. It empowers us to seamlessly integrate data across platforms, providing a holistic view of customer integrations and unlocking new realms of operational efficiency,” SkyWorld chief executive officer Lee Chee Seng said.

“By leveraging the expertise of Universiti Malaya’s Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology, the collaboration seeks to create a robust infrastructure capable of efficiently managing vast amounts of data, uncovering valuable insights from complex datasets through automated analytical processes, and driving strategic and informed decision-making within SkyWorld,” he added.

The memorandum included a collaboration that would span two years, from the first quarter of 2024 to the fourth quarter of 2025.

UM computer science and information technology faculty dean Professor Loo Chu Kiong noted that the partnership would also be an opportunity for students and faculty to apply their research to real-world scenarios.

“At Universiti Malaya, we have always strived to be at the forefront of innovation and excellence. We stand on the brink of a transformative collaboration with SkyWorld that transcends national boundaries, placing Malaysia on the global map as a hub for technological innovation in property market analytics. The MoA we sign today with SkyWorld is not just a formal partnership, it is a testament to our shared vision of creating impactful solutions,” Loo said.
