Sidec partners NCT on first-of-its kind robotics hub in SEA, eyes RM30b tech valuations

KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 15): Selangor is targeting a combined valuation of RM30 billion for 10 high-value technology companies by 2030, as a new collaboration between Selangor Information Technology & Digital Economy Corp (Sidec) and NCT World Sdn Bhd seeks to establish a robotics manufacturing ecosystem at the NCT Smart Industrial Park (NSIP) in Sepang, Selangor.

He said the target was based on developing 10 companies valued at RM3 billion each, building on the state’s investments in semiconductor and other high-technology businesses.

The collaboration was formalised through a memorandum of collaboration (MOC), announced following the launch of the Selangor AI and Semiconductor Summit (AiSEM@Selangor 2026) at the Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur today.

NCT World, a wholly-owned subsidiary of NCT Alliance Bhd, will provide industrial infrastructure, while Sidec will facilitate connections with local and foreign robotics manufacturers and investors.

The collaboration aims to bring together robotics and automation manufacturers, technology providers, talent and investors to support the co-creation and development of the Selangor Robotic Manufacturing Ecosystem, with NSIP serving as an industrial base to support the assembly, manufacturing and showcasing of robotics, advanced manufacturing and automation products.

The initiative builds on Sidec’s semiconductor ecosystem, anchored by Malaysia Semiconductor IC Design Park 1 and 2 in Puchong and Cyberjaya, and the Advanced Semiconductor Academy Malaysia (ASEM). The initiatives have onboarded 20 companies and trained 850 engineers to date.

Yong said the state’s existing initiatives include the RM100 million Selangor Semiconductor Fund, also known as Ehsan Capital, which supports early-stage local startups in integrated circuit (IC) design, AI chips and advanced semiconductor technologies.

“We are investing in five or six companies already. We also have a new fund with Khazanah [Nasional Bhd],” he told reporters at a press conference, adding that Sidec was also in discussions with Kumpulan Wang Persaraan (Diperbadankan) (KWAP) and other potential investors.

At the 2027 Budget tabling, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that Khazanah and KWAP are investing RM1.2 billion to help elevate local semiconductor companies into higher-value segments.

The semiconductor allocations are part of a broader push by government-linked investment companies (GLICs) under the GEAR-uP initiative, which mobilises RM25 billion in total domestic investments to build economic resilience and empower high-value sectors.

Citing SkyeChip Bhd, a semiconductor company in which Sidec has invested and which is valued at RM3 billion, Yong said the state hopes to build a pipeline of companies capable of reaching similar valuations.

“We have SkyeChip, already valued at RM3 billion. Imagine if we have 10 companies like that. There will be RM30 billion. That is our goal by 2030,” he said.

“As the technology evolves, I believe that NCT is also taking a bold action to work with us, to come up with the first of its kind in Southeast Asia where we have a robotic high-tech park,” Yong added.

NCT executive chairman and NCT Alliance group managing director Datuk Seri Yap Ngan Choy said Phase 2 of NSIP has been planned to accommodate more than 300 factory units. He added that the configuration could be adjusted to cater to larger anchor tenants through customised or built-to-suit facilities.

Phase 1 spans about 230 acres and comprises 270 factory units equipped with solar power, according to the draft figures provided. Yap said handovers are progressing by sub-phase, with take-up close to 90%.

In a statement, NCT said the park would offer flexible occupancy arrangements for robotics and automation manufacturers, including outright purchases, rent-before-purchase options and factory infrastructure leased to tenants.

“These options are intended to enable manufacturers, particularly larger-scale operators, to commence operations with reduced set-up time and costs,” it said.

“Through this collaboration with Sidec, we aim to provide manufacturers with the infrastructure, flexibility and environment needed to establish and scale their operations in Selangor,” said Yap.

Malaysia–China Robotics Day

NCT and Sidec also plan to co-organise Malaysia–China Robotics Day in January 2027, bringing together 15 robotics and automation companies — 10 from China and five from Malaysia — to showcase technologies and facilitate investment and business-matching opportunities.

Both parties also plan to establish a robotics exhibition hub at NSIP as a platform for companies to display their products, engage potential customers and explore setting up operations in Selangor. Sidec will facilitate the participation of robotics companies.

NCT said the collaboration is already generating interest from prospective tenants.

It said that TCab Tech (M) Sdn Bhd, the Malaysian arm of China-based electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft developer TCab Tech, is expected to display its five-seat E20 tilt-rotor aircraft at NSIP by November 2026. The aircraft made its Malaysian debut at IOI City Mall on Oct 9, in an exhibition organised with Sidec.

NCT added that TCab Tech is also in discussions to establish an operational base at the park, alongside Malaysian industrial robotics manufacturer DF Automation & Robotics Sdn Bhd, which produces autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) and automated-guided vehicles (AGVs).
