Developer of Merdeka 118, world’s second-tallest building, names Izwan Hasli as CEO

Izwan Hasli succeeds Datuk Tengku Ab Aziz Tengku Mahmud, who had led the Merdeka 118 project since its inception in 2010.

KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 29): PNB Merdeka Ventures Sdn Bhd, the developer of the world’s second-tallest building, named Datuk Izwan Hasli Mohd Ibrahim as its new chief executive officer effective Jan 1, 2026.

Izwan Hasli will steer the next chapter of the Merdeka 118 precinct with a clear focus on 118 Mall, The View at 118 observation deck, the Merdeka Textile Museum and other upcoming components, PNB Merdeka Ventures said in a statement on Monday.

“His priorities include driving operational excellence, unlocking asset value, and ensuring that Merdeka 118 fulfils its promise as a fully integrated and vibrant precinct,” the company said.

PNB Merdeka Ventures, a unit of Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB), is set up for the development of Merdeka 118, a 118-storey mega-skyscraper dwarfed only by the Burj Khalifa. The company is also the landowner and sole custodian of the nearby Stadium Merdeka and Stadium Negara.

Izwan Hasli succeeds Datuk Tengku Ab Aziz Tengku Mahmud, who had led the Merdeka 118 project since its inception in 2010, when it was initially known as Warisan Merdeka before being rebranded as Merdeka 118.

Izwan Hasli was previously the CEO of Putrajaya Holdings Sdn Bhd, the master developer of Putrajaya, and also served as an executive director of KLCC Urusharta Sdn Bhd, where he oversaw the management of iconic assets including the Petronas Twin Towers and the wider KLCC precinct.

The new CEO said in the same statement, “2026 will be a defining year with the debut of major attractions that will bring the precinct to life.”

The Merdeka 118 precinct is a mixed-use development comprising premium Grade A office space, the Park Hyatt Kuala Lumpur, The View at 118 observation deck, the seven-storey retail podium known as 118 Mall, and two residential towers branded as Merdeka Residences.
