I-Bhd earmarks RM10 mil for i-City digital infrastructure as tech push accelerates

KUALA LUMPUR (June 26): I-Bhd (KL:IBHD) has committed RM10 million for intelligent infrastructure pilots across i-City, signalling a deeper push into smart city development as the group continues its strategic shift towards a tech-enabled urban platform.
The move, announced at the group’s 2025 annual general meeting, includes the expansion of the i-City SuperApp, which aims to integrate lifestyle, facility, and business services into a unified digital platform.
According to a press release on Thursday, the SuperApp will serve as a backbone for a wider digital ecosystem encompassing building operations, tenant services, and community engagement.
Artificial intelligence and robotics will be deployed throughout i-City to support automation, predictive maintenance, and cost-efficiency measures.
Chairman Tan Sri Lim Kim Hong said the transition aligns with i-City’s founding vision as Malaysia’s first digital city and sets the stage for its evolution into an adaptive urban ecosystem.
“Our growth journey has always been grounded in bold vision and forward planning. i-City was built two decades ago as Malaysia’s first digital city with fibre-to-home broadband and smart infrastructure. Today, we are ready to write the next chapter by elevating i-City into an intelligent, adaptive urban ecosystem,” said Lim.
The group expects its digital initiatives to be self-funding, with near-term monetisation to come from SuperApp service revenues, enhanced leasing opportunities, and operational savings.
This strategy builds on I-Bhd’s existing business foundation across property development, investment, and leisure and hospitality, all of which continued to contribute to earnings in 2024.
